    • Welcome to the website for ABATE FLORIDA, Independence Chapter    . We're located in Brevard County Florida, and we have the distinction of being The Largest ABATE Chapter in the WORLD! Our current membership is about 1,400 members strong. If you would like to join us, click the JOIN link above. As our county population continues to spiral out of control, it's important that with every additional car and truck to protect riders' rights and safety.

    And that is ABATE Independence Chapter's mission - to promote motorcycle rights and safety. We are not a motorcycle club. Our activities focus on STATE and LOCAL governments as we fight for our right to ride without government infringement. If you ride a motorcycle, or support someone who does, then you should consider joining us. Our annual dues are small, and entitle you to many opportunities every month.

    We are governed by a local, elected board, and hold membership meetings the last Tuesday of each month, 7 PM, at The American Legion post 81 in Melbourne on US1. You're encouraged to come to a meeting, and if you like what you hear, join us!

    ABATE Independence also supports and/or conducts many functions throughout the year from The Toy Run in December to our Birthday Party and monthly Chapter Rides, and many government meetings and bill intervention. We'd love to have you as a member, and also if you're ALREADY a member your continued support is appreciated by all of us.

    Motorcyclists should realize that accident avoidance skills are even more important than protective wear. Riding a motorcycle requires skills and coordination not required to drive a car. Hesitation can be a killer; you must be able to react immediately. If you are new to motorcycling learn these skills today and practice till the skills become second nature. Important riding skills include steering, braking, shifting, and packing passengers.
